The Packing House at The Mill Works is a special place. Its heavy hand-hewn chestnut beams, wooden floors and ceilings, and brick construction present a unique ambiance for creative activity and innovation.
The Packing House is not a bar, restaurant, bistro, or saloon. We are a serious listening and viewing space with a sole objective of providing a variety of distinctive programs in acoustic music, dance, film, literature, theater and the visual arts. Programming is overseen by the "Eastern Connecticut Center for History, Art, and Performance" (EC-CHAP), a member based 501.c.3 non-profit cultural institution. Visit www.ec-chap.org or www.thepackinghouse.us/upcoming for program offerings.
Beginning September 2017, we will offer our "Talent Showcase" on the second Wednesday of the month (previously the second Thursday). Free admission / Donations accepted. Doors open 6:30pm / Show 7:00pm. Similar in format to an "Open Mic", however we provide an extended platform for all forms of performance to share their talents and foster collaboration. We provide significant time slots and encourage original creative expression.
Acoustic musicians, film makers, poets, comedians, jugglers, puppeteers, and creative artists of all ages are invited to perform at The Packing House. Here is an opportunity to showcase your work in an intimate historic venue before a live audience. Test ideas and concepts and solicit feedback. PA / sound reinforcement, video projection, and up to 3 microphones provided. Invite everybody you know! Advance sign-up strongly advised by calling 518-791-9474. Sign-up at the door available (time permitting).
Snacks and soft drinks available. "BYOB&F" - Beer and Wine only (I.D. Required).
