I have been noodling around with acoustic guitars and singing since the early 70s. But other than a brief flurry of performing activity and songwriting in North Carolina in the mid 70s, I didn't start writing or performing seriously until I was in my 50s. Until my Fall 2008 move to DC, for the previous four years my musical collaborator guitarist-vocalist Marck Smith and I performed my and his original songs regularly in the Los Angeles area: We have appeared at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena, the Ice House in Pasadena, Cafe Mundial in Monrovia, and Dr. Music in Glendale. I have also appeared solo at Dr. Music, as well as at open mikes at Kulak's Woodshed in Valley Village, Garret Swayne's weekly Songwriter's Workshop at Cafe Bellissimo in Sherman Oaks, UnUrban in Santa Monica, and Portfolio in Long Beach. Marck and I have attended the last three weekend retreat Songwriters' Workshops in Big Sur run by esteemed folk singer and composer Steve Gillette.
