Hi, wanted to know how big the place is and if its possible to have singer, guitarist and drummer there.
Thank you, hope to hear from you
Tigran (7/2008)
What time does is start/go until? Thanks
Rich (6/2008)- Is about Expression and saying No to the LA Bullshit!
Let's spell out exactly what that is:
-
YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY A COVER.
It’s Free. As in… FREE… As in… you just come and enjoy yourself and if you feel like drinking a smoothie. Rock’n Roll.
-
YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR PARKING.
We have Parking behind the venue and of course on the side streets! The show starts at 8PM, so you don't have to worry about Meters.
-
DON'T FEEL PRESSURED TO BRING ANY ONE. ALTHOUGH WE'RE NOT AGAINST IT
:) We believe that is OUR JOB not YOURS! All we ask is you come and play, relax, chill out and meet other like minded folks who do the same thing you do, and if you have flyers and CD's, promote the heck out of them on our Independent Scene Artists Merchandise Table.
-
WE ACTUALLY PROMOTE YOU AND GIVE YOU A FREE REVIEW!
If you come to our Open Mic, we are going to send out all the info you give us in a Newsletter every week. The potential for you to gain new fans/listeners is HUGE. What other venue does that?
-
GET A BEER WITH US - THE HOSTS - AFTER THE SHOW.
We're all about getting to know you guys. Don't just play your tunes and leave. There's a great bar down the road that has, $2.50 Pabst Beer. Not bad right? So feel free to take a load off after the show and join John and I for a beer. Here at the Independent Scene - we're about trying to build a Community of solid artists/performers. We don't have to always be playing music, half a musician's life is drinking any way. lol. No worries if you don't drink. Stay Healthy, but come any way and get yourself a water instead - and make all of us drinkers look bad.
Here is a copy of the Original Newsletter we sent out to all our Tribal Cafe Friends, My Spacers, etc. from this Thursday’s show.
Dennijon is only 19 years old, but keep a look out for this guy because he’s got some damn talent. His edgy voice mixed with smooth guitar chords and lyrical story-telling songs – make this performer a real must see. We hope to have Dennijon with us next week to play some more of his Killer Songs. Thankyou Dennijon for a great performance at the Independent Scene Open Mic!
Duane Johnson
Duane is the man. He has this incredible steel string guitar – that has a fabulous sound, not to mention a great voice to go along with it. Although Duane only played us three of his songs – each one had a depth and character that displayed some serious musicianship. While Duane let us know he hadn’t played out much lately, we thought he kicked some Independent Scene Open Mic Ass! And you can quote me on that. Duane is working on songs to get up on his website soon – drop on by next week and perhaps you’ll catch him playing some more of his originals. Thank you Duane for an excellent performance.
Tony Kaye
Tony reminds me of the Dylan times. Here is a performer who brings his book of lyrics with him wherever he goes. That’s how committed he is to getting his songs right! While many musicians lean on their melodies to keep the song strong, Tony pushes the listener to take a more Introspective Approach – burying them with his words. Literally. I had to freaking get a shovel and start digging myself out after Mr. Kaye was done playing. We hope to see Tony and His words back at the Tribal Café Independent Scene open mic real soon. (Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get Tony’s website info – but come to the next show and I’m sure you’ll get to see him LIVE!)

Deron Wade (7/2008)-
I started this with a friend of mine because we got tired of all the b.s. with L.A. promoters asking us to bring the crowd. i.e You can play if you can bring 15, 20, 30 people. If I'm promoting what exactly is the promoter doing?
So we thought it would be a good idea to start a place where artists could do their thing regardless of how many people show.
At the Independent Scene we are doing it without promoters or agents or managers. Come be part of something unique. "Do a little do it yourself."
