- As per Sarah Alana of ASCAP it is ILLEGAL to play live music, even if it is an original piece of work and your a member of ASCAP. If the location that you are playing at is not a member of ASCAP. This is a violation of Federal Law and copyright infringement. For further questions or inquires you can contact Sarah Alana of ASCAP at (800) 910-7347 ext.89
Mark (4/2007)- Trying to get some further explanation from ASCAP on this; it makes little sense that ASCAP would (or could) collect on either (a) my own works, for which I implicitly grant performance rights when I perform them or (b) unlicensed original works, which are quite literally none of their business. I've emailed ASCAP about this, wanting to get responses in writing and avoid any misrepresentation; see openmikes.org/blog for details and future updates.
Paul Roub (4/2007)- Just a reminder. All music & poems that are performed @ Munch are original works. Copyrighted materials are not permitted without permission.
Mark (2/2007)- I was very impressed with the new whole concept and format. I recommend that if you are singer or songwriter you should check-out this event. You never know who you can hook-up with.
Mark (2/2007)- This is an Opem Mic for both poets AND musicians. All levels of experience, all styles are welcome. There is a $3 minimum at the Munch Café, and a $3 requested donation for the Open Mic but donations of less (or more!) are accepted when offered.
