Sunday Jump for Monday's Slump!
Sunday Jump is a community open mic series at Kapistahan Grill in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles. It was founded by Eddy M. Gana, Jr., Stephanie Sajor, and Janice Sapigao. Once a month, we provide a safe space for artists to express free speech and uplift their communities through the spoken and written word. Our organization's leaders are award-winning poets and community activists who have shared their work across the nation.
Historic Filipinotown is the heart of our cultural community. As Filipino-Americans, we acknowledge the marginalization of our people's history, such as our unrecognized WWII veterans and forgotten agricultural workers of the labor movement. In recognition of this history, we aim to provide a safe space for marginalized voices to express free speech and uplift their communities.
When: Every 1st Sunday of the Month, 5-7pm
Where: Kapistahan Grill, 1925 W. Temple St., Los Angeles, CA 90026
The mic is open for poets, musicians, emcees, and all artists to share and build a community with us!
Open mic-ers have 5 minutes max.
We have two community guidelines: (1) Express, not impress and (2) Free speech, not hate speech. It's not about the snaps and claps. It's about sharing the love of your art. It's not about putting people down. It's about uplifting our communities.
Please support Kapistahan Grill! This is a Filipino-owned local business that serves traditional Philippine cuisine. Available to dine kamayan style (eat with hands).
