I played at last night's open mic… twas a blast. The audience is appreciative. The sound is great for open mics usually, although as the gracious Drew stated earlier, a monitor for the performer would be perfection. All in all it's a great open mic, but more people need to know about this fine establishment. To Matt: I can't see why stand-up would be a problem, in fact: YES you can!

Hello, I was wondering if I could perfrom stand-up comedy at your open mic night?

Not to worry, Steph, age does not matter, nor do the choice of songs -original or cover (just keep it age-appropriate - that is, know who is listening). Come see me (=the MC for the evening, or Steve, the host) at the beginning of the night & we'll get you set up. Zippy's might have a problem because of a door charge, or something like that. No alcohol is served there either; as it is basically -what I call- an enlightment book store (don't worry, it's quite sane,laid-back and very eclectic; LOL!) with music and poetry open stages/showcases.

? Do you have to be 21 and older to perform here? And can you do covers of songs, as long as you give credit to the original artist? Cause I know at zippy's you cant.

Stopped in last night. Nice place; good Spirit. Host Steve & Emcee Big Rich were most gracious - considering my numerous Pete-Seeger-like-memory-lapses, all went pretty well! The place deserves a much better following. There IS a sound system and the audience that was there was very attentive and engaging. Loosely run, yes, but at least I got a longer set in than normal {**BTW, it is 7:00 start, to approx. 9pm**; perhaps the latter part could be extended, making it more accessible to increase patronage} Softer lighting might be a plus, as would a little monitor for the performer, but still quite a nice little venue.
